Vilcabamba, Ecuador... It's where we want to call home. (part 3)

Shar and I spent a total of eight days out of our sixteen days in Ecuador enjoying life in the Valley of Longevity. Our time there was magical and almost surreal in it's beauty. Everything about the area appealed to both of us and we each left feeling connected to the land and it's people and even closer to each other as our desire to make this move was more apparent than ever.

We found ourselves waking up excited and ready to get out and walk around just to see what would catch our eye on the morning walk into town. Mother Nature always delivered, every morning and in abundance! A large variety of trees, plants, shrubs and flowers literally blanket the entire area. No matter where we found ourselves walking, there was plenty of nature just as God had created it to be...

It was inspiring to see so many working to live as one with their surroundings. There was a true sense of pride that could be felt no matter where we wandered. We have been here and now we know that it is very possible to grow most of your own food here. Livestock seem to do very well here. We saw cows on the side of mountains grazing without difficulty. We saw several yards with true free range chickens. We even saw the happiest pig either of us have ever seen!

By the end of the day, we honestly did not think there was anything else left that Vilcabamba could show us and take our breath away, then we experienced sundown in the valley. Wow, the majesty of a purple sky as the sun fades over the Andes. This was a sight that both of us agreed that neither of us would ever be able to grow tired of seeing...

This blog is being written to help share our desire to move and why we chose Vilcabamba. We have been asked by friends and family, "why Ecuador?". Although it was fun at first to just answer, "why not!", it became apparent that we were going to have to sit down and try to put into words our feelings, emotions and intentions associated with this move. This is a very special place, the moment you arrive, you feel it! It may not be the perfect place for everyone, but for right now at this point in life it is the perfect place for us to relocate the Jones House and the perfect place for Shar to practice natural healing arts. If you are reading this, then once we are in Vilcabamba and established know that you are always welcome at La Casa de Jones...
