That Taxi ride from Cuenca to Loja is Intense, but the views are so worth it!

There is no other way to describe it, the shuttle ride from Cuenca to Loja is intense! To our knowledge, the only way we had available to us to reach Vilcabamba was through Elite tours who would drive us to Loja where we planned to catch the bus to finally reach the valley. We took a quick cab ride over to the Elite Tours office. In no time at all, we were loaded into a shuttle with two local families and a business man and driving off for Loja...

And so began our 3 hour trek over the Andes via mini van shuttle! Shar and I were both pumped on adrenaline and had no intention of even trying to nap. The locals on the other hand, put total faith in their driver and most of them, including the two babies, slept for most of the trip!

We were grateful that the ride was as fast and wild as it was for it kept us both wide awake for the most incredible visual journey that either one of us had ever experienced before. What you will see and experience on that ride over the Andes will more than prepare you for the amazing sights that await you once you reach Vilcabamba.

We saw majestic mountains rising up before us then as we peered ahead we could see the road in front twisting and winding up into the clouds and before we knew it, we were in those clouds! We would emerge from the cloud cover and see the most incredible view of the Andes and all of their magnificence! Then, just as we were taking it all in, it was back down and into yet another valley and even more amazing views! This goes on for the entire ride, you never get bored or tired of just looking at all of what there is to see...

As our roller coaster tour of the Andes came to a close we knew we were somewhere special. A place where the land looks as it did a long time ago, vibrant rich and beautiful. As we drove into Loja, we were breathless, both from the exhilarating ride and the sheer magnificence of the scenery! This had been one helluva ride and one that we would recommend to any and every one!

Up next, Loja!

Ok, we took a video of our tour, and well, here it is...
Enjoy!

    1. Karen, we really enjoyed Cuenca. We spent three days there just walking around getting to know the place. If it were not for the fact that we are wanting to grow as much of our own food as possible, Cuenca would have been our choice of cities to live in or near. You really sleep riding over the mountains? Wow! :-)
